Summer Institute in Biblical Studies:

During the summer months we step aside from our indepth book studies of the Scriptures to look at various subjects and issues. Summer Institute classes cover a broad range of subjects from theology and doctrine to surveys of various Biblical issues.

The 2008 summer study will consider a broad survey of the Old Testament. We will concentrate on some of the key Old Testament persons and how they relate to God’s plan of redemption. We will also look carefully at how these people fit into the historical timeline of Scripture.

Each week there are message notes that will summarize the key points of the lesson. These notes will provide a concise review for your personal growth as well as information to share with your family and friends.

A Word About Our Approach to Teaching:

At Crossroads Church we are committed to teaching the Bible. During the 2007-08 school year we will be studying in-depth the first eleven chapters of Genesis. Each week during the Genesis Study we will have Study Notes that come out the week before the lesson. The Study Notes give additional background and insight into the passage of Scripture being studied. There are personal questions that go along with the Study Notes. The Study Notes and questions are also used in our small groups. On Sundays we teach through each passage verse by verse.

Each summer we hold our Summer Institute in Biblical Studies to study the key doctrinal/theological issues found in the Scriptures.  Our goal is to systematically teach through the Bible as well as to cover the key historical doctrines of the Faith. It is our desire to give the believer a Biblical education on par with a Bible School or College.

Our approach to teaching the Bible is to utilize the standard techniques that apply to studying any book of antiquity. To properly understand the Bible we need to look at the following: (1) the historical and (2) cultural setting surrounding the events covered. (3) Since the Bible was written in Hebrew and Greek we also need to consider the grammatical usage of the original language to fully understand the meaning of a passage. Finally we believe the Bible is the complete thoughts that God has for man, therefore we must look at passages in the (4) immediate context of the book they were written in as well as how a passage relates to the (5) overall context of the complete Bible.
